Highlights of the Bari – Igoumenitsa route
To get from Italy to Igoumenitsa, a city in Greece that represents the main gateway to the Hellenic peninsula for those who prefer to travel by sea, the port of Bari is an excellent starting point.
The Bari – Igoumenitsa ferries travel about 190 nautical miles with a travel time of 8 and a half or 9 hours for direct journeys, and 9 and a half, 10 hours, for journeys with a stopover on the island of Corfu. The races are daily in high and mid season, while in the low season there are six a week.
They leave both in the evening, continuing the crossing at night, and during the day. The shipping companies engaged on the route are Superfast Ferries and Anek Lines, which operate in joint service and, just in summer, Ventouris Ferries.
The port of Bari, north-west of the old city, is the main Italian passenger port on the Adriatic Sea. The piers from which the ships leave for Igoumenitsa are the Darsena di Ponente and the Molo di Ridosso.
The port of Igoumenitsa, near the center, is located in the bay of Thesprotia, in the homonymous region of which the town is the capital, opposite the island of Corfu, and it is the closest Greek port to Italy.
