The ferry lines to Sardinia increase with the creation of the Genoa – Golfo Aranci route and vice versa (absolute novelty) by the Moby shipping company for the transport of passengers and goods.
The Moby Drea and Moby Otta ferries connect, since July 2024, the port of Genoa with that of Golfo Aranci, in the north-east of Sardinia, not far from the port of Olbia.
There are, exclusively in high season (July and August), two outward journeys (one on Sunday morning and the other on Sunday evening) and two return journeys (one on Monday morning and the other on Monday evening).
Moby and the Sardinian port of Golfo Aranci
Moby tested the landing at the port of Golfo Aranci in September 2023 by carrying out mooring tests, at which the mayor of the Sardinian municipality Mario Mulas and the tourism councilor Gianni Prontu were also present.
On that occasion the mayor declared: “We ask that the Port Authority carry out the works we have indicated. With a consultative resolution we have expressed the political direction of the port that we would like and, in particular, the strengthening of the docking for an additional ship, in addition to the cruise ship, and a tourist port for large yachts”.
In January 2024, a technical table was established to ensure the correctness of the moorings in the alternation between Moby and Sardinia Ferries (the latter company also operates some lines with Golfo Aranci as destination) in the use of the port.
This was followed by an agreement stipulated between the Municipality and the shipping company Moby, in the presence of representatives of Sardinia Ferries, the Harbourmasters of Olbia and Golfo Aranci, the moorers, the pilots, the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia and the Local police.
The mayor’s comment this time was as follows: “This is an important result for Golfo Aranci. It is an event made possible by all the actors involved, who have implemented the launch of these new routes which will also contribute to the economic growth of the country”.
