Connections to the metropolitan city of Naples – Ischia island

The connections to the island of Ischia are obviously those by sea, neglecting those by helicopter, not affordable by the vast majority. There are three ports in the metropolitan area of the continent: two in Naples and one in Pozzuoli. Starting from Molo Beverello you can reach the towns of Ischia, Casamicciola Terme or Forio (all island municipalities), exclusively by hydrofoils , the only boats to run from this pier of the Neapolitan maritime station. Still from the city of Naples, however, from Calata Porta di Massa, ferries depart only for the port of Ischia and the Casamicciola port (only hydrofoils can be accessed in the port of Forio). From the port of Pozzuoli ferries take only an hour, because the route is shorter. The shipping companies that connect the island of Ischia to Naples are MedmarAlilauroSnavCaremar and Gestour. If you are traveling with a car or motor vehicle you will need to arrive on the island by ferry, otherwise you can opt for a faster hydrofoil. To take into consideration also the sea weather because in case of particularly rough sea the hydrofoils will not be able to leave. The Alilauro Gruson hydrofoils reach Ischia from April to October with a single daily ride (round trip) departing both from Sorrento, from the port of Marina Piccola, and from the port of Capri. Instead from Procida (Marina Grande) it is possible to land on the island all year round, in Ischia Porto – by hydrofoils (in about a quarter of an hour) or by ferries (maximum in half an hour) Caremar – or in Casamicciola, with the Snav hydrofoils or the Caremar ferry.

Reach the island of Ischia by plane + sea connection

The reference airport to reach Ischia is the international airport of Naples, Capodichino. After landing, a few meters from the square in front there is the terminus of the Alibus, the shuttle bus that allows a convenient direct connection with the ports. It quickly serves the stops of Piazza Garibaldi (Central Station), Immacolatella (Porta di Massa) and finally Molo Beverello, a port that can be reached in thirty-five minutes, with departures every quarter of an hour. Considering the time of the last boarding, the last useful shuttle ride to the port is at 21:10 but it is better to anticipate. The ticket costs five euros, it can be purchased directly on the bus or online on Bustickets and must be stamped. An alternative is the Taxi service, waiting in the area in front of the Arrivals. For the maritime station, the predetermined rate is currently twenty-one euros and includes all extras (holidays, luggage, animals). Collective taxi is also available at the price of six euros per person including luggage, in the area near the roundabout in viale Ruffo di Calabria, but only useful for those who have to take a hydrofoil, as it stops only at Beverello.

Getting to Naples airport from Ischia

To return from the island by ferry you arrive at Calata Porta di Massa, from which you can reach the terminal of the Naples International Airport with the Alibus, whose stop is less than a hundred meters from the airport and is precisely located at the Immacolatella. Of course, taxis are also available as soon as you land. If you return to the mainland by hydrofoil, the landing place will be that of Molo Beverello: the Alibus stop is right at Molo Angioino; like taxis, a few meters from the landing.

Reach the island of Ischia by train + sea connection

The main railway station is Napoli Centrale (on the lower floor there is the underground station known as Piazza Garibaldi). The hydrofoils at Molo Beverello and the ferries at Porta di Massa can be reached by taxi, which are located right outside the station (predetermined rate 13 euros); or by Alibus in about twenty minutes (the stop is in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi at about two hundred meters, where it will also be possible to take bus number 151 and get off at via Acton for Beverello or via Marina at the intersection with via Duomo for Porta di Massa). For the port, from the underground train station it is also possible to use the underground Line 1 to the Municipio stop, near the Molo Beverello, or Duomo stop (ten minutes walk from Porta di Massa). The collective taxi in Piazza Garibaldi only serves the Beverello maritime station.

As for the return from the island towards the Naples Central Station, once you have landed at one of the airports of the maritime station, the recommended solutions are the Alibus or taxis.

Reach the island of Ischia by car or motorbike + ferry

The obligatory choice for those who want to arrive in Ischia by car, motorcycle or scooter is the ferry, a ship that is used for the transport of passengers and vehicles; unless you leave them in a guarded parking, to then be able to continue also by hydrofoil and then move around the island by public or rented transport and taxis. After all, in high season vehicular traffic on the island, especially in August, is significant even if for the people of Campania there is a ban on landing with cars throughout the tourist season. In any case, to reach the island by embarking by car or motorbike, necessarily from Calata Porta di Massa or from the port of Pozzuoli, arrived in Naples on the A1 motorway, you can choose to go to Pozzuoli (recommended route), from where the crossing at sea takes an hour (you have to take the A56 Tangenziale motorway to the Via Campana junction, continue along via Alfonso Artiaco and then via Pergolesi to the port); or go to the city by exiting the A1 at the Napoli Port area junction – Boarding for the islands, from where, if you already have tickets or reservations for the islands of the gulf, you can directly access to Porta di Massa by a dedicated road, avoiding city traffic; otherwise the gate to access, for those who have not yet booked the ticket, will be the Pisacane one from Via Marina. For Casamicciola, from this last landing, the crossing will last an hour and a quarter, while for Ischia Porto it will vary between 95 and 115 minutes, depending on whether or not the call is made in Procida.
