The main ports of Sardinia
The main Sardinian ports affected by passenger traffic are the following:
- the commercial port of Cagliari;
- the commercial port of Arbatax;
- the infrastructural hub of Olbia, which includes the commercial port of Olbia and that of Golfo Aranci;
- the north-eastern infrastructural pole, consisting of the ports of Palau, La Maddalena and Santa Teresa di Gallura, only useful for an intra-regional section and for connections with Corsica.
- the commercial port of Porto Torres.
Where it is convenient to land
Where it is convenient to disembark depends a lot on the area in which you have to go.
To go to the south of Sardinia in general, in the Medio Campidano, in the Sulcis Iglesiente area, but also in central areas such as the province of Oristano, the preferred port of disembarkation is certainly that of Cagliari, reachable from the ports of Civitavecchia, Naples and Palermo.

To reach Ogliastra and the Province of Nuoro the best choice is that of the port of Arbatax, connected to the port of Civitavecchia.
The relative national route is the Civitavecchia – Arbatax one.
Even the ports of Olbia and Golfo Aranci are functional for reaching the Province of Nuoro, but they are ideal for arriving in the North-East, where the Costa Smeralda stands out. Ferries arriving in Olbia depart from Civitavecchia (making the shortest route between the island and the Italian mainland), from Livorno and, in summer, from Piombino and Genoa. Departures for Golfo Aranci are made from Livorno.

Ferries from Italy to Golfo Aranci:
The ports of Olbia and Golfo Aranci are also convenient points of arrival to reach by land, once disembarked, the port of Palau, from which sea connections are made to La Maddalena. The port of Olbia is also an excellent landing point to reach Santa Teresa Gallura, the closest port to Corsica, from where the ferries that cross the Strait of Bonifacio depart to arrive on the French island.
Porto Torres is the best landing place to disembark to go to the province of Sassari; it is also the closest port to the Asinara National Park. Ferries arriving in Porto Torres leave their moorings from Civitavecchia and Genoa.
