The International Festival of Street Artists and Contemporary Circus takes place in Santa Teresa Gallura, the northernmost municipality of Sardinia on the mainland, every year. Artists from all over the world come to this town of about 5,000 inhabitants in the province of Sassari and offer many free shows, engaging both for adults and children.
Organized by the cultural association “Dietro le Quinte”, with the artistic direction of Alberto Pisu, the so-called Gallura Buskers Festival brings clowns, jugglers, illusionists, tightrope walkers, bands and puppets to the streets and squares.
To reach this coastal town from the Italian peninsula which in dialect is called Lungoni, you can travel by ferry to Olbia (once landed you can continue by car via the SS 125 Orientale Sarda and the SS 133bis along about 60 kilometres, or by bus with line 601 of the ARST Trasporti Regionale della Sardegna), or with the ferries to Porto Torres (after disembarking, you can continue by car via the SP 90 along 106 kilometres, or with the Digitur bus).
Street Artists and Contemporary Circus: Gallura Buskers
With the Gallura Buskers Festival, artists from all over the world come to Santa Teresa Gallura to offer free juggling, acrobatics, magic, clowning, aerial techniques, cabaret, music, humor and improvisation, puppetry and puppet shows. In the evening, in the streets and squares of the town, entertainment is guaranteed.
The squares are as follows:
- Vittorio Emanuele I square.
- Liberty Square.
- Bruno Modesto Square.
The coast of the country is characterized by the very popular Licciola beach, from where you can see the Strait of Bonifacio and Corsica.
An archaeological site not to be missed is the Nuragic complex of Lu Brandali, in Santa Reparata.
The Longonsardo tower is very characteristic: it is a Sardinian coastal tower located on the promontory that divides the bays of Santa Reparata and Porto Longone.
The port of Teresino is the gateway to Corsica: from here the ferries that cross the Strait of Bonifacio depart.
