Tasting of good food and wines from Sicilian cellars in Palermo in December

At the Palermo food and wine festival, the week before Christmas, you can simultaneously enjoy the pleasures of food and wine and the art of Sicily. Raise your glasses!

DeGusti Arte event: Sicily, food and wine excellence and culture

Also this winter, the weekend before Christmas, the food and wine and artistic event Degusti Arte (third edition) is being revived in Palermo: from 16 to 18 December 2022, from 17:00 until midnight, in the Tre Navate space of the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, wineries, distilleries, dairies, olive growers, beekeepers, producers of canned fish, tropical fruit, chocolate and coffee offer the products of the land of Sicily. The ticket, which is valid for ten tastings, costs ten euros and can be purchased directly at the box office.

The Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, located in Via Paolo Gili (formerly the Officine Ducrot industrial area), are currently an exhibition space for events and the headquarters of the Institut français de Palerme, the Goethe-Institut, the Istituto Gramsci Siciliano, the national film school and the Academy of Fine Arts.

To reach the Palermo area from the other regions of Italy, by car or without it, rather than traveling exclusively by sea through the Strait, you can seriously consider the opportunity to travel by ferry to Palermo departing from various port cities in the North , Central and Southern Italy. Once disembarked, to reach the shipyards from the port, you will have to travel about four kilometers by car, taxi or bus line 106 from the stop at the crossroads between Via Dante and Via XX Settembre up to Piazza Camporeale, from where you then walk for five minutes to Via Paolo Gili 4.

The tasting will feature wines from more than forty wineries and also gastronomic excellences in a stimulating context made even more pleasant and stimulating by jazz music, talks and focus on Sicilian food culture conducted by industry experts and Masterclasses in collaboration with the University of Palermo. The link that food and wine has with literature will also be highlighted, thanks to the participation of authors from some independent Sicilian publishing houses (Glifo Edizioni, Istituto Poligrafico Europeo, Navarra Editore, Pietro Vittorietti Edizioni and Il Palindromo which, together with the Prospero Literary Enoteca will have a corner dedicated to the sale of books), and with figurative art through the creation of pictorial works with oil, wine, cocoa and coffee.

Wine tastings

During the event, the Mandrarossa winery from Menfi will offer wines from two native vines, Grillo and Nero D’Avola and the two innovative varieties Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc. The four-generation winemakers of the Alessandro da Camporeale company will be present, vinifying Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Catarratto, Grillo and Nero d’Avola grapes. The Baglio Baiata Alagna winery will let you taste the wines of the vines of the Marsala area Zibibbo, Nero d’avola, Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia and Damaschino. Coppola1971 exhibits for tastings three lines of sparkling wines produced in Partinico exclusively from Sicilian vines Catarratto, Grecanico, Grillo, Inzolia, Moscato, Nerello Mascalese and Nero d’Avola. Baglio Reale offers special vinifications such as Zibibbo obtained from slightly dried grapes. From Tremestieri Etneo arrive to be appreciated oils, wines and jams of Favole Siciliane. You can also taste wines from the Destro winery, born in Randazzo, where native vines such as Nerello Mascalese and Carricante thrive on a lava flow from Etna.

As an aperitif there will be Guerrera, Sicilian vermouth obtained from the mixing of Sicilian white wines flavored with citrus fruits. And, to digest, brandy, grappa, bitters and other distillates from the ancient Cantine Bianchi di Marsala. Furthermore, Ficodì Sicilian Spirits will present the prickly pear liqueur, the gin with Limone di Siracusa I.G.P. o Arancia Rossa di Sicilia I.G.P., artisanal creams, liqueurs and bitters, all produced in Gagliano Castelferrato and Nysura Distillery, its quality gin distilled in Nissoria. The tea aged in barrique and the cocktails based on local liqueurs by the famous Palermo barlady Chiara Mascellaro are the grand finale.

Gastronomic tastings

The palate will be delighted with the fine cheese and ricotta made from fresh sheep’s milk from the pastures of the high Madonie from the Bompietro Dairy. The Bodega pizzeria restaurant in Palermo will set up its food corner, while the Castelvetrano company Asaro – Olives of Sicily will put olives, oil, preserves and pasta on the table. Biscuits, panettone and a laurel liqueur are the handcrafted creations of the Palermitan Casa Allora, all worth trying, as well as the cold-extracted monoflora honeys of the small beekeeping company Apicoltura Paternostro. And it doesn’t end there, because the list of participants is constantly updated.
