Where should you take the ferry to Ischia?

First of all it is important to ask yourself if you prefer a slow crossing or you go in a hurry, if you have a vehicle or if you are on foot. All questions to understand where it is convenient to take the ferry to the island of Ischia.

Take the ferry to Ischia from Naples

Many ferries leave daily for Ischia, an island that has three ports dedicated to public maritime transport. How to reach the island of Ischia – at this link – has been fully explained. If you want to save money and at the same time travel in the so-called slow mode – with a slower and more traditional pace – you need to choose the ferries (unlike hydrofoils, they are designed for boarding as well as passengers and vehicles) even if you are on foot; the duration of the navigation is longer but you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples and benefit from the sea air, perhaps even the sun on the external decks. It is better to opt for the ferry terminal of Calata Porta di Massa, the quay of the Neapolitan port area near Piazzale Pisacane, instead of Pozzuoli which is not very well connected to Naples if you do not have a means of locomotion own or you do not want to take a taxi. From Calata Porta di Massa the ships of the Caremar fleet reach the port of Ischia through trips with or without a stop in Procida, or the port of Casamicciola.

If these shipping lines do not meet your needs, there are additional solutions with fast craft. All the routes can be found by looking at these links for the timetables of the Naples – Ischia Porto route and the timetables of the Naples – Casamicciola route.

The single-hulled hydrofoils or catamarans depart daily from Molo Beverello where you can also easily get there from Calata Porta di Massa on foot or via a free shuttle bus that shuttles between the two ports. This pier, located near the Maschio Angioino castle, is easily reachable from the airport and from the railway station with the Alibus, which stops at the Immacolatella, near the ferry dock, before continuing to get there. Or with line 1 of the urban underground thanks to the Municipio stop with exit on the port side. Here you can opt for fast vehicles which are more expensive but certainly faster. From Molo Beverello the Alilauro fast boats arrive directly to Ischia Porto. Some routes, after this stop, proceed to the port of Forio (here at the link we have the timetables of the Naples – Forio route), while those Caremar sometimes make a stopover in Procida first and those Snav, always with this intermediate stop, then reach Casamicciola Terme.

Take the ferry to Ischia from Pozzuoli

Ferry to the port of Pozzuoli

If you are traveling with a vehicle in tow you should consider the departures from the port of Pozzuoli, well connected to the motorway and the Naples ring road and from which the routes for Ischia Porto and Casamicciola. From this port the Caremar, Gestour and Medmar fleets operate also without stopping and they are shorter: in sixty minutes you arrive at your destination. Here are the links with the timetables of the Pozzuoli – Ischia Porto route and the timetables of the Pozzuoli – Casamicciola route.
