Ponza

The tourist success of Ponza began after the Second World War, passing from a place of confinement to a holiday destination for tourists coming mostly from Lazio and Campania.

In summer Ponza welcomes a huge number of visitors from Formia, Anzio, Terracina, San Felice Circeo, Naples Mergellina and Casamicciola Terme (Ischia Island). The numbers of maritime connections don't say everything; yachting is also very important for tourism.

In fact, most of Ponza's beaches, coves and inlets can only be reached by sea and this has allowed the maintenance of a virtuous balance between the needs of tourist development and the protection of places and habitats that are unique in the world.

Special mention for food and wine. Ponzese cuisine is a mix of the best of the Lazio and Campania culinary traditions, with materials (fish and agricultural products) of the highest quality and respecting the seasonality of the products.
