The tourist success of Ponza began after the Second World War, passing from a place of confinement to a holiday destination for tourists coming mostly from Lazio and Campania.
In summer Ponza welcomes a huge number of visitors from Formia, Anzio, Terracina, San Felice Circeo, Naples Mergellina and Casamicciola Terme (Ischia Island). The numbers of maritime connections don't say everything; yachting is also very important for tourism.
In fact, most of Ponza's beaches, coves and inlets can only be reached by sea and this has allowed the maintenance of a virtuous balance between the needs of tourist development and the protection of places and habitats that are unique in the world.
Special mention for food and wine. Ponzese cuisine is a mix of the best of the Lazio and Campania culinary traditions, with materials (fish and agricultural products) of the highest quality and respecting the seasonality of the products.
To go to Ponza you can leave all year round from Formia, in summer also from Terracina and in high season also from Naples, Ischia and Ventotene.
Here is a list of beaches and rocky coves where you can swim on the island of Ponza.
The largest island of the archipelago of the Pontine Islands, in the central Tyrrhenian Sea, contains in its landscape various environmental, archaeological and food and wine treasures to be experienced.
