Located in the municipality of Rio, on the north-eastern side of Elba, Cavo is mainly a tourist port which, however, also allows the approach of hydrofoils destined for the Piombino-Cava-Portoferraio route and ferries (summer only) in service on the Piombino-Cavo section .
The tourist port has a capacity of about 200 berths (small and medium-sized) and is equipped with all the services that compete with a modern landing place: lighting; video surveillance; water and electricity supply; mooring and unmooring assistance; Fuel distributor etcetera .
The port of Cavo can be reached by bus, taxi and by car and scooter (useful information for those who are already on the island).
The CTT nord company (Compagnia Toscana Trasporti) operates the local public transport service on the island of Elba. The extra-urban line 117, departing from Portoferraio, serves the port of Cavo (Portoferraio - Capoliveri - Portoazzurro - Rio Elba - Rio Marina - Cavo). Times and frequency of the line vary according to the time of year, with an increase in connections during the tourist season.
The bus stop is located on the Vespucci seafront, near the port.

The island of Elba has an airport (Marina di Campo Airport) in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba. Annual connections with Pisa, and seasonal connections with other Italian and foreign locations. The village of Cavo is one of the most evocative tourist resorts on the island of Elba and is very popular during the summer, and this is also due to the presence of the tourist port which can accommodate numerous boats. Near the port area you will find the Cavo beach, one of the largest beaches in the locality. Other beaches are that of Frugoso and Cala delle Alghe .
As for the places of historical and artistic interest, the remains of the Roman villa of Capo Castello, the ruins of the church of San Bennato, the maritime traffic light of Montegrosso (now disused), villa Tonietti, the Tonietti Chapel and villa Bellariva.
