Always at the service of the city, the port of Durres is the most important in Albania, as well as one of the main ones in the entire Adriatic Sea. Just think of the importance already covered in the second century AD, after the construction by the Romans of the Via Egnazia, a road connecting the Adriatic and the Aegean.
Therefore a historic port from which, even today, many of the goods pass to / from the rest of Albania and most of the passengers headed to the tourist resorts that follow one another along the coast, in recent years affected by a real boom in attendance.
Other factors contribute significantly to the development of the port of Durres: proximity to the railway station; to the city center; and at the airport of Tirana, the capital, just about thirty kilometers away.
Returning to maritime connections, the port of Durres is connected to the main Italian ports along the shores of the Adriatic: Venice, Ancona, Brindisi and Bari. The connections are made by ferry and hydrofoil and are guaranteed by various shipping companies.
Outside the Tirana "Mother Teresa" International Airport it is possible to take a taxi or rent a car to reach the port of Durres.

Near the port of Durres there are various activities: car rental; bar; restaurants; shopping centers; food and so on.
Durres is a city where ancient and modern coexist. On the one hand, archaeological sites of great value such as: the Roman amphitheater; the Venetian tower; the remains of the imposing walls; the Byzantine forum; etc; on the other, about six kilometers of coastline with bars; restaurants; equipped beaches; accommodation facilities and all the other services normally found in a seaside town.
This mix, sometimes successful, other times a little less due to excessive building pressure, is immediately visible at the exit from the port. As already mentioned, in fact, the historic center of Durres is not far from the city port. The same goes for the extended promenade.
Therefore, the idea of getting to know the city a little better as soon as you disembark, or waiting to embark for Bari, Brindisi, Ancona, Venice is not at all strange.
