There are ports and ports. There are those who excel for services and those, on the other hand, who, despite not having great functionality, are equally successful thanks to the beauty of the context in which they arise. That of Levanzo belongs to this second category.
Located in the southern part of the island, inside Cala Dogana, the port of Levanzo consists of an 80-meter pier, two docks and a small beach where fishing boats are pulled up. Ferries and fast vehicles from Marsala, Trapani and the other two Egadi islands (Favignana and Marettimo) dock there.
The journey varies between 25 and 90 minutes. The times are affected by any intermediate stops and the type of boat with which the journey is made.
Levanzo is the smallest of the Egadi Islands. You can easily get around on foot or, alternatively, you can take advantage of the taxi boat service provided by various fishermen on the island. In this way you can reach the suggestive inlets in the area by agreeing in advance the time of return to the port.
The ticket office is located on the harbor.
Near the port of Levanzo there are a couple of bars-restaurants, a bakery, a typical handicraft shop and several agencies that organize boat trips and / or diving (with or without the use of cylinders).
The most famous tourist attraction of Levanzo is certainly the Grotta del Genovese. Discovered in 1949, in this cave there are several wall incisions dating back to the late Paleolithic. The painted subjects (deer, bulls, oxen, donkeys, etc.) have proved to be of considerable archaeological importance, enriching the knowledge of the evolutionary history of man in the upper Paleolithic (between 40 000 years and 10 000 years ago).
Trekking, diving (snorkeling and diving) and boat trips are the other things to do in the smallest of the Egadi Islands. Special mention for the local cuisine that can be counted onraw materials of the highest level starting, of course, with the daily catch.
