Even if the numbers are not those of Genoa, the port of Savona is of great importance in the economy of Liguria and north-western Italy. Above all, like the regional capital, Savona is a port with a thousand-year history made, here too, first of trade and then of industrial development.
In the 90s of the last century the decision to focus heavily on cruise traffic, with the construction, in 2003, right in the city, and in synergy with the Costa Cruises company, of a maritime station (Palacrociere) thanks to which today Savona is among the first national cruise stops.
That's not all, because together with the choice of transforming the city port into a cruise hub, both merchant activities (above all, the import of fruit) and passenger traffic to Corsica and Sardinia, were transferred to nearby Vado Ligure, less than 10 kilometers from Savona.
A choice, that of dividing the different port vocations of the territory (trade, industry and tourism) which has proved to be rewarding for the city of Vado, from whose port every year, on average, about 300,000 passengers pass through, with positive repercussions on the economy local.
In addition to Flixbus, which allows you to reach Savona from the main Italian cities, there are also TPL buses, a local public transport company in the Province of Savona that guarantees connections both with the Palacrociere and with Porto Vado (Line 6).
