The port of Sète is located in the Occitan municipality of the same name, not many kilometers from Montpellier. The quay from which the ships set sail is at the end of a narrow and short canal; the entire area of the port - within which commercial activities are also carried out - is protected by some barriers.
Ferries depart from the port of Sète to Spain, Tunisia and Morocco (in particular Nador and Tangier ).
Several shipping companies operate at the Occitan port: among these there is GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci).
The public road transport service is managed by the Sète Agglopole Mobilité. For information on timetables and fares, please consult the company's website (travel tickets can also be purchased via the app).
Alternatively, you can also move around the city by car and taxi. For more information, take a look at the official website of the Sète Tourist Office.
The nearest airport is Montpellier Méditerranée, which is approximately 40 km from the port of Sète.
Starting from the airport, it is possible to reach the Occitan airport in various ways.
Car
At the airport you can rent a car and reach Sète (via the A709 and A9). The journey takes about 40 minutes.
Train
Trains leave from Montpellier-Sud de France station to Sète station. Reaching the Montpellier train station is very simple: there is a paid shuttle service that allows travelers to move around in comfort.
Taxi
The taxi service is managed by the Association des Taxis Aéroport de Montpellier, which runs to and from Montpellier airport.
The railway station is about 2 km from the port of Sète. The port area can be reached on foot (in about 20 minutes), by bus or taxi. To stay up to date on the status of the rides and bus fares, we recommend that you monitor the Sète Agglopole Mobilité website.
Except for the usual services that can be found in every port, there is not much in the immediate vicinity of the port. Moving towards the city center, however, you will find a whole series of commercial activities where you can shop.
One of the first things you will notice when arriving in Sète is the presence of canals and bridges , which somehow make it similar to Venice. The most important of the canals is the Canal Royal, which runs through the city center connecting the Thau pond to the Mediterranean Sea.
Although there are no ancient monuments in the municipal area, there are a number of places not to be missed during your stay in the city. Climbing Mont Saint Clair - which with its 183 meters dominates and watches over Sète - you will not only enjoy a breathtaking view, but also the unique chapel of Notre-Dame de la Salette, a building characterized by barrel vaults and pictorial representations which recall the style of Byzantine mosaics. The church roof is surmounted by a stone pylon on which a statue of the Virgin stands.
Going down to the sea, you will come across three other very significant places: the Paul Valéry museum, the marine cemetery of Sète and the Theater of the sea. Heading towards the Thau pond, however, you will find the Georges Brassens Museum.
