Located in the southern part of Croatia (and to be exact along the coasts of the Split-Dalmatian region), the port of Split is among the most important in the country and in the Mediterranean. From a structural point of view, it consists of two main areas: one to the west intended for pleasure boating, the other to the east intended for passenger traffic.
From the piers that are located in the latter area, ships leave for Italy (Ancona) and other Croatian towns.
One of the main shipping companies serving the Dalmatian port is Snav.
If you are in the historic center of the city, the port is easily reachable on foot. Alternatively, you can use public transport, rent a car or take a taxi.
The public road transport service of the city of Split is managed by the company Promet Split. For info on timetables and prices, we invite you to take a look at the company's official website.
The closest airport to Split is the Split-Castelli airport. It is located in the territory of the town of the same name which is located 25 km north-west of Split.
From the airport it is possible to reach Split and its port in various ways.
Car
At the airport you can rely on one of the agencies present and rent a car.
Bus or Shuttle
Near the airport there is the Promet Split bus stop and the shuttle stop. Both vehicles depart from the airport and reach the bus station, located a few meters from the boarding points.
Taxi
The taxi service is available during the hours when the airport is operating. For more information, we advise you to consult the airport's website (section "To & from Split Airport").
The Split train station is located close to the port area. Therefore, once you leave the station it will not be difficult to walk to the piers from which the ships leave.
Snav - Gat Svetog Duje, 1
Along the streets of the historic center of Split (located in the immediate vicinity of the port) there are a whole series of commercial activities where you can shop during your stay in the capital of the Split-Dalmatian region.
Most of the monuments and sights of the city of Split are concentrated in its historic center. The latter, as referred to in the previous paragraph, is located behind the port area.
The heart of the old part of Split is certainly represented by the famous Diocletian's Palace. Built by the Roman emperor between 293 and 305, the majestic architectural complex in 1979 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Not far from the palace is the Golden Gate: it is the main monumental gate of the walls that once surrounded Split.
The most important place of worship in the capital of the Split-Dalmatian region also deserves a mention: we are referring to the cathedral of San Doimo, which was originally the mausoleum of Diocletian. Converted into a church in the 8th century, it belongs to the archdiocese of Split-Makarska. Moving west, we finally find another significant place in the city: Piazza della Repubblica.
