Like all self-respecting tourist resorts, Vieste is also full of shops and shops (clothing, food, typical handicrafts, etc.) where you can shop.
Although it is mainly known as a seaside resort, Vieste has some traces of its past on its territory. Not far from the port, in fact, we find two monuments that deserve attention. We refer to the Cathedral and the Castle.
The construction of the concathedral basilica (dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta ) dates back to the 11th century. The church - which is the main place of worship in the city - has been remodeled over the centuries and is flanked by a high and massive bell tower.
Another place of historical interest, as mentioned, is the Castle. The fortress, which overlooks the town of Vieste from above, was built by the Swabians and is characterized by its triangular plan and pointed bastions.
The city is known not only for historical and tourist reasons but also for the presence, on the beach of the Castle, of Pizzomunno .
It is a limestone monolith 25 meters high which ideally protects Vieste. In addition to being the symbol of the Gargano town, the latter is also the protagonist of the legend of Cristalda and Pizzomunno. The poignant love story between the two young people (who can hug each other every hundred years) was told in music by Max Gazzè on the occasion of the Sanremo Festival 2018.
