The port of Vulcano is located in the northern part of the island, the southernmost of those of the Aeolian archipelago. The port area has a pier where hydrofoils from the mainland, the other islands of the archipelago and Sicily dock.
In particular, fast and daily connections are guaranteed by Milazzo, Messina and the other islands of the archipelago. Furthermore, during the summer season there are connections from Naples (Mergellina) and Salerno.
The port of Vulcano can be reached by bus, car, taxi and by bike and scooter (useful info for those who are already on the island).
Bus: the public transport service is entrusted to the Scaffidi bus, which with its own shuttles takes tourists to the most suggestive places on the island.
Taxi: near the pier there is a place where taxis are parked.
Bikes, scooters and cars: in the port area there are various car rental activities (especially quad bikes), bikes and scooters.
The ticket office is located in via Porto di Levante.
Near the port there are grocery stores, a pharmacy, a rental of hiking equipment, a jewelry store and a local craft shop.
The first place you come across as soon as you arrive in Vulcano is undoubtedly the Acque Calde beach. Another must-see beach is that of the "Black Sands". In the southern part of the island, however, there are the Gelso, Punta dell'Asino and Cannitello beaches.
Beaches, however, aren't the only attraction on the island. To the north of the island, in Vulcanello, it is possible to visit the "Valley of the monsters", so called because of the singular rocks present there and similar to frightening mythological creatures.
If you decide to spend a stay in Vulcano, an excursion to get to know the island and in particular the Gran Cratere della Fossa, the main one of the Aeolian island, is a must. Along the path that will lead you to the panoramic point, you will be able to admire not only the crater, but also the Solfatare di Vulcano.
