The main feature of the port of Catania is its centrality. Over time this has meant frequent commercial connections both with the ports of the Adriatic and with those of the Tyrrhenian corridor.
In particular, then, with Naples and Salerno the connections , as well as commercial, are also tourist . Especially during the summer, in fact, there are many passengers who prefer to reach Sicily by ferry, thus relieving some of the congestion of the Salerno - Reggio Calabria road artery and the maritime connections in the Strait of Messina.
But the port of Catania is also central to land connections. The Etnean capital , in fact, is at the center of 6 provinces - there are 9 in all - of Sicily. Furthermore, it is necessary to remember the proximity to the other territorial mobility networks: the Fontanarossa airport, just a few kilometers away; and the railway station, about 1 kilometer.
In short, a port in the center of the Mediterranean , equally distant from other European ports and from those of North Africa. An aspect, the latter, which has also led to a development of the cruise sector without forgetting, of course, boating andfishing , both professional and sporting.

Near the port of Catania there are various activities: bars; pastry shops; restaurants; pizzerias; car rent; food and so on.
The port is just a few minutes walk from Piazza Duomo, the historic center of Catania. And it is all around this square that many of the city's attractions are concentrated. From the Cathedral of Sant'Agata, to Palazzo degli Elefanti (seat of the Town Hall), passing through Porta Uzeda up to the Badia di Sant'Agata Church, the historic center of Catania is a tribute to Sicilian Baroque that cannot leave you indifferent.
If there is enough time, the Bellini Garden is also worth a visit, a public park in the center, used by the people of Catania to walk, run and let children play in peace.
Last but not least, the food. You cannot say that you have been to Catania without having tasted a cannolo or an arancino, the latter symbol of Sicilian street food, and above all at the center of a dispute over the genre of the name (and not only) with Palermo. In the regional capital, in fact, it is called "arancina", and the Accademia della Crusca was even invested some time ago in the matter.
