Located on the eastern side of the island, and to be exact in the Cala dello Spalmatoio, the port of Giannutri is equipped with a small quay where the ferries coming from Porto Santo Stefano dock, and which take 50 minutes to make the route. Giannutri is 12 nautical miles from the mainland (equal to 22 km). The island - ça va sans dire - can also be reached with the help of pleasure boats (which often dock at Cala Maestra , located on the west coast of Giannutri).

Given its small size, the island can be easily explored on foot. The inhabited area (consisting mainly of holiday homes and a few commercial establishments open during the summer) develops around the port area and the small square, the only one present in Giannutri; other buildings are distributed over the rest of the island, characterized by the presence of a dense network of paths, which will delight lovers of long walks.
Inhabited during the Bronze Age, Giannutri experienced a period of great fortune during the Roman era, a period which dates back to the construction of a villa that belonged to the Domizi Enobarbi, an influential senatorial family of skilled traders. The remains of the domus are located near Punta Scaletta, in the northwestern part of the island.
Giannutri is also equipped with a maritime lighthouse, located south of the island.
