Located in the southern part of the Province of Livorno, that of Piombino is one of the main ports (together with the one in Livorno) from which ferries depart for Elban ports (Portoferraio, Cavo and Rio Marina), Sardinia (Olbia) and the Corsica (Bastia).
As for the connections with the island of Elba, they are numerous and daily (travel time: about 60 minutes). The routes to Sardinia and Corsica are active and frequent during the summer.
The port of Piombino can be reached by bus, car, train and taxi.

If you want to reach Piombino by car, here are the two main solutions:
From Milan: A1, in Parma Ovest continue on A15, then A12 (Genoa-Livorno). Exit at Rosignano Marittimo and continue on SS 1 Aurelia towards Venturina-Piombino-Isola d'Elba.
From Rome: A12 towards Civitavecchia, SS 1 Aurelia towards Grosseto, continue towards Venturina-Piombino-Isola d'Elba.

Florence (Santa Maria Novella) towards Piombino with an average frequency of about 90 minutes. Travel times range from 2h30min. at 3h.

Near the port of Piombino you will find the city center, where a whole series of commercial activities exist, ranging from clothing to souvenirs, from cosmetics to typical products.
Mainly known for the presence of the vast iron and steel center, the city of Piombino nevertheless has a historic center rich in history and art. Starting from the places of worship, among the most notable we can include the co-cathedral consecrated to Sant'Antimo, the Chapel of the Citadel, the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Church of Mercy .
Among the civil and military buildings, however, the Citadel, the Leonardesche Walls, the Piombino Castle, the Torrione and Rivellino complex, the Town Hall with the annexed Clock Tower , the Casa delle Bifore, Piazza Bovio (located on the city promontory) and the nearby Semaphore. Finally, the Archaeological Museum of the Populonia territory deserves a mention, which houses finds from the site located in the homonymous hamlet north of Piombino.
