Although Porto Santo Stefano is mainly interested in seaside tourism, it is the custodian of a considerable number of historical monuments. Among the places of worship (all recently built), the Church consecrated to the patron Saint Stephen (rebuilt after World War II on the ruins of the eighteenth century), the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Church of the Immaculate Conception certainly deserve a mention.
The town of Porto Santo Stefano is dominated by the massive Spanish Fortress: built between the end of the sixteenth century and the beginning of the seventeenth century to defend the city, the complex is now home to two permanent exhibitions. Finally, the suggestive Lungomare dei Navigatori and the Mediterranean Aquarium of the Argentario are worthy of note, both located a few steps from the Fortress.
