The southernmost archipelago of Italy, halfway between Sicily and the coasts of North Africa. The geographical data is enough to explain the success of Lampedusa and Linosa. In fact, tourist advertising has had an easy game in describing these islands as exotic destinations, ideal places not only for a holiday dedicated to the sea and relaxation but also to satisfy the perennial search for an elsewhere with respect to the habits and style of life of the western world.
However, the opposite also happens: those habits and lifestyles represent a very strong ambition for many Africans. An ambition that, for the geographical data outlined above, passes first and foremostfor the landing in Lampedusa and, to a lesser extent, Linosa.
In Lampedusa there is a monument, the "Gate of Europe", which recalls the story of the migrants. The work, created by the artist Mimmo Paladino, intends to pass on to future memory the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of women, men and children and has also quickly become a point of tourist interest.
One more reason - in addition to the sea, the beaches (on all the Isola dei Conigli ), the rocky coves, the excursions and the gastronomy - to visit the wonderful Pelagie Islands.
From June to October there is a ban on the influx of vehicles on the island of Linosa (Pelagie archipelago).
In addition to the ferry rides from the island of Sicily to the Pelagie Islands, hydrofoil rides are available in the summer.
They are not large, but the beaches of Lampedusa (in the extreme south of Italy) delight swimmers: the coasts and the sea are impressive.
In Linosa there is only one beach; the other coves are rocky. In any case, the sea is pristine and wonderful.
Let's immediately mention three: sun, beach, sea; but if you are really interested in things to do in Lampedusa, then you have to keep reading.
On the island of Lampedusa the influx and circulation of motor vehicles are limited from the end of July to the beginning of September.
